Italian restaurants, sub shops, calzone counters and Italian delis sit next to the pizzerias on this site because most of them bake pizza too, often from the same dough. Full-service Italian restaurants take reservations for dinner, add a tip line for table service (15-20% is customary) and usually run a cheaper lunch menu on weekdays. Sub and sandwich shops are counter-order and quick, with sizes by the inch or in half and whole lengths. Calzones and strombolis are priced like a medium pizza and are large enough to share. Italian delis and bakeries sell by weight and by the piece, and many close mid-afternoon.

Hours are published for 5 days a week. On most of those days it is open 5–11:30 pm. Note that it does not open on Monday, Sunday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (412) 390-2012. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is dishosteria.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

Customers rate it 4.9 out of 5 on Google across 705 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded italian restaurants in Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh is in Pennsylvania, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Traffic in Pittsburgh peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Addresses read from the street number up to the city, state abbreviation and five-digit ZIP code; the map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Stopped by on a Tuesday night and it was buzzing! The tuna carpaccio and gnocchi were absolutely delicious and flavorful. Lovely, intimate atmosphere, great vibes, happy people all around.

One of the best spots in Pittsburgh! We had heard many great things about Dish and were not disappointed. The space is cozy but doesn’t feel too tight, and the ambient noise is just right for conversations. Our waitress was knowledgeable, kind, and attentive, and the service was fast but not rushed. Our food was fantastic, coming out hot and not over salted. We finished dinner with complimentary strawberry liquor for our anniversary. I highly recommend trying the saffron risotto and seafood or the mushroom pappardelle! Their cappuccino and tiramisu for dessert were also excellent.

Dish was on my list for a while and finally got to go after planning well in advance. The food was great, but I don’t know why it’s so hard to get a table. If I went back I’d probably go for bar seating but if you have a larger group need to reserve a month out when they open the reservations. The bread with oil was actually very good and my gnocchi was well cooked and seasoned.

I've seen this place very highly recommended quite a lot online. If you search "best restaurant in Pittsburgh" on Google, this will almost always be the top result. So, when my fiance and I seen an open reservation slot for 9:00pm on 6/6/2026 we jumped on it. I wouldn't say I was disappointed in our experience per-say, but I do think this place is a touch over-hyped. The food was decent, but nothing was very incredible either. I'd say it's comparable to most average upper-priced Italian restaurants that aren't an Olive Garden or a Bravo. The bread that was brought-out before dinner was excellent! It tasted homemade and they were generous with the portions. The appetizer (meatballs) were just fine, but nothing to write home about. The sauce covering them was solid and paired well with the bread mentioned before. The entree's were quite good (if a little bit repetitive after the first few bites). I will say I do appreciate that they give larger portion sizes here compared to most other restaurants offer at this price point. Dessert was probably the most lackluster part of the meal. The tiramisu was extremely average and tasted equivalent to tiramisu I've received at chain Itali

Dish Osteria Bar completely blew us away. For the first time, I truly experienced what real Italian cuisine tastes like β€” everything I had before doesn’t even compare. Every dish was incredible, full of flavor and made with real care. My whole family was genuinely impressed (which is rare!). Warm, cozy atmosphere and an unforgettable experience. We will 100% be back ❀️
